Prevent bypassing Family Protection (Parental Controls) using browser internal cache

Internet browsers use caching to store HTML web pages by storing a copy of visited pages and then using that copy to render when you re-visit that page. If the date on the page is the same date as the previously stored copy, then the computer uses the one on your hard drive rather than re-downloading it from the internet. This is standard practice for most browsers.

Unfortunately, this may cause a webpage to load when a users profile restrictions would normally block the site.

The best way to prevent browser caching from bypassing My Kids controls is to change the browser settings.

We recommend using the following settings in your browser:

  1. Set the browser to look for pages online each time they are requested.
  2. Set the browser cache to minimum, or not use internal cache at all.
  3. Manual clean the cache periodically by deleting temporary internet files using the Disk Cleanup utility and clearing your Web Browser's Cache.
