PC Tune-Up & Malwarebytes Conflict

Starting with the most recent update of Malwarebytes, certain files and data belonging to the PC Tune-Up program are falsely being detected as malware or unwanted programs. To resolve this issue you must add PC Tune-Up to the scan exclusion list in Malwarebytes. Instructions are as follows.  Alternatively, please contact Total Defense Customer Support for assistance.

For Malwarebytes version 2.2.1

  1. Open Malwarebytes

  2. From the dashboard, select Settings

  3. On the navigation panel to the left side, select Malware Exclusions

  4. Select Add Folder

  5. In the windows explorer pane that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and highlight the Total Defense folder and click Select Folder

  6. Repeat the steps above to add the folder C:\ProgramData\PCPitstop. This folder is hidden and you will need to select View then check Hidden Items for it to be visible.

  7. On the navigation panel to the left, now select Advanced Settings

  8. Uncheck the box next to Automatically quarantine detected items.

  9. On the navigation panel to the left, now select Detection and Protection.

  10. Change the PUP and PUM settings to Warn user about detections.

  11. Now run a threat scan in Malwarebytes. Once complete, uncheck the boxes next to any items containing Total Defense, PC Tune-Up, or PC Pitstop.

  12. Once you have unchecked these boxes, select Remove Selected.
